Extending the Life Span of your Battery and Atomizer

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

Over time, components of your electronic cigarette wear out and require replacement. And while the cost is minimal, you certainly don’t want to be ordering new parts every time you turn around.

Two components that do eventually wear out are the electronic cigarette’s atomizer and battery. Taking steps to maximize the life span of these items will help reduce the cost of your vaping experience.

Continue reading for a quick description of ways you can maintain your atomizer and battery for maximum life span and learn more by visiting our newest knowledge center article – Ways to Extend the Life of your E-Cigarette Atomizer & Battery.

Atomizer – Your E-Cigarette’s heating Element

The average life expectancy of an atomizer is 2-3 months. One of the utmost important things for you to do to keep it in good order is to ensure it stays moist all the time.

Periodically cleaning the atomizer is also a good idea. Do this by separating it from the electronic cigarette and soaking it in some Coca-Cola for a few hours. Coke contains properties that break down particles. After soaking, take some tongs or pliers and hold it next to the outlet of a steaming tea kettle for a few minutes.

In addition to this general cleaning, you should also keep the contact points clean. Do this by taking a Q-Tip and wiping the contact point inside the atomizer on the screw side.

Battery – Ensuring you have the power to vape

Without a battery, you won’t have the power you need to use the atomizer so therefore, it’s an integral part of the vaping experience. Most electronic cigarette batteries last around 200-300 charges.

If you’re using a manual battery model, you want to be careful and not push the button too hard. This can potentially cause the button to stick or fall into the battery.

If you’re using an automatic battery, slightly unscrew the battery from the atomizer when you’re not using the electronic cigarette. Leaving them together will drain the battery quicker so be sure the contacts are not together when not using your unit.

Another important item you need to stay on top of is the electronic cigarette liquid. If you’re filling your own cartridges, you need to be careful and not overfill them as this could potentially leak and damage the battery.

DAMAGES FROM LEAKING E-LIQUID ARE NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY

Besides staying on top of your e-liquid, you should also clean the contact points like you would for an atomizer. You can easily do this by taking a Q-Tip and wiping the threading for both the atomizer and battery.

These are just a few ways you can extend the life of your atomizer and battery. Learn more by reading our newest article – Ways to Extend the Life of your E-Cigarette Atomizer & Battery – or visit our electronic cigarette knowledge center today.

Where do Electronic Cigarettes come from?

Monday, November 8th, 2010

Especially if you’re new to smokeless electronic cigarettes, you may be wondering where they come from, who invented them and so forth. They’ve only been around for a few years and not even that long in the U.S. market.

While some e-cigarette liquids and components are made in the U.S, the concept itself comes from China – which is where many of these devices are still manufactured.

Hon Lik – a 52-year old pharmacists and inventor – created the first electronic cigarette after losing his father to lung cancer about 10 years ago. Obtaining his first patent in 2003, Lik was a heavy smoker just like his father.

E-Cig Inventor Hon Lik

He’d light up first thing in the morning, catch a smoke between lectures, during lunch and in the lab at the university where he studied Oriental medicine. By the end of the workday, he usually had burned through two packs – and sometimes he’d go through a third over dinner and drinks with friends.

What’s interesting about Hon’s invention is how he found his inspiration in the addiction itself.

“It’s a much cleaner, safer way to inhale nicotine,” says Hon.

Obtaining his patent in 2003 and introducing the electronic cigarette in China the next year, Hon’s invention has been all the rage in China. His company – Golden Dragon Holdings – changed its name to Ruyan to better market its products around the world.

(Ruyan literally means “to resemble smoking”)

What is the Nicotine Strength of an Electronic Cigarette?

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

If you’re not too familiar with electronic cigarettes, you may be wondering where the nicotine is contained and how strong it is.

To first clear one thing up – the nicotine isn’t contained in the electronic cigarette itself. When you first encounter a smokeless electronic cigarette, it’s natural to think they’re just like regular cigarettes.

However, the nicotine you crave is instead contained in a liquid or pre-filled cartridge you purchase separately and attach to the cigarette. What happens is when you take a drag on the electronic cigarette (just like you would with a regular cigarette), an atomizer heats the liquid and turns the nicotine into a vapor that you inhale.

That’s why we call it vaping!

As you probably know, regular cigarettes are available in a variety of strengths. Some brands like Marlboro Ultra Lights hardly contain any nicotine while others, like Lucky Strike, have a high amount of nicotine in them.

In general, electronic cigarette liquid comes in varying strengths and is tailored to meet the satisfaction of every vaper. These include:

  • No Nicotine – contains 0 milligrams of nicotine
  • Light – contains 4-8 mg of nicotine
  • Medium – contains 10-14 mg of nicotine
  • Full – contains 16-24 mg of nicotine

In light of this information, you may be wondering how long a nicotine liquid cartridge is supposed to last. Regardless of strength, each nicotine liquid cartridge lasts around 60-80 puffs. How long one lasts really depends on your habits and how you intend to use your electronic cigarette.

A new article in our electronic cigarette knowledge center explores the different strengths of nicotine and explains what you can do to find the right strength for you.

Getting Started with Electronic Cigarettes

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

Whether you’ve heard of e-cigarettes or not, you’ve certainly heard about the dangers of smoking traditional cigarettes. E-cigarettes can offer the same look and feel of traditional smoking but with much fewer harmful substances.

Many people are using smokeless electronic cigarettes to satisfy their cravings for nicotine. They’re much less intrusive than regular cigarettes or smokeless products like chew and snuff. While electronic cigarettes do contain a very addictive substance (nicotine), they DO NOT contain many of the carcinogens regular cigarettes do.

But many wonder how they can start using electronic cigarettes. Where can I buy them? What’s a good brand? How much does it cost?

You may have seen smokeless electronic cigarettes for sale in your local gas station or at a truck stop and many dealers around the Internet.

The Sidesho E-cigarette from Modern Vapor though provides an economical and dependable way to enjoy an alternative way to enjoy smoking. For as little as $29.95, you can get what you need to get started or get fully outfitted to enjoy smoking at home or on-the-go for only $119.95.

Once you purchase the Sidesho starter kit or one of our other smokeless electronic cigarette brands, you will be able to enjoy smoking anywhere. And once you run out of the nicotine e-juice, just refill your e-cig cartridge and continue vaping!

After the initial expense of the starter kit, you’re sure to see that vaping is a much less expensive habit to maintain than traditional smoking.

National Vapers Club Members Claim Electronic Cigarettes Help them Quit Smoking

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Technically, we’re not supposed to say electric cigarettes like our Sidesho E-cig can help you quit smoking. The law currently doesn’t allow us to as we can only say they’re an alternative to traditional cigarettes.

But a nationwide organization for vapers produced a quick video of many of its members who claim smokeless electronic cigarettes did indeed help them kick their smoking habits…rather than smoke a cigarette – which kills over 400,000 people every year – they vape!

Most if not all of the National Vapers Club’s members claim to have smoked at least 10 years but a few smoked 35-40 years. Smoking is one of the hardest habits to kick – as difficult as heroin some say. Many people try and fail several times before successfully giving cigarettes up for good.

Many people who try smokeless electronic cigarettes find they can still deliver nicotine and feeling of smoking without most if not all of the harmful side effects.

Traditional smoking gives off an unmistakable odor that affects your social life and maybe even your professional life too.

Vaping on the other hand is odor free or if there is any odor, it’s like cotton candy or some other pleasant smell.

If someone says they are able to give up cigarette smoking by switching to electric cigarettes then we say more power to them.

And after watching the short film, check out the National Vapers Club and find other vapers out there who can serve as a great support group and social outlet. Also find out about legislative and regulatory issues regarding electric cigarettes and more.

Eliminating Nasty Tobacco Odor with Smokeless Electronic Cigarettes

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

One of the undoubtable trademarks of cigarettes is the smell, it gets everywhere – in your hair, car, clothes – anywhere or anything the smoke comes in contact with. And the smell’s not affecting you so much since you hardly notice it, but your non-smoking friends and family certainly notice it.

There’s no mistaking the ominous odor cigarette smoke has…and with increased awareness of the health effects of smoking, people may even try and avoid you intentionally.

Smokeless electronic cigarettes resolve this problem and allow you to enjoy smoking without the pungent smell that comes along with it.

How?

E-cigarettes emit a vapor, not smoke, which is why we call it vaping. This vapor literally evaporates before your eyes. Since cigarettes burn tar and other chemicals in addition to tobacco, the smell from the smoke attaches itself to about anything it can find.

E-cigarettes on the other hand heats a nicotine infused liquid that you inhale.  Since this vapor doesn’t contain the properties regular cigarettes do, it doesn’t give off that unmistakable smell. Once your family and friends notice this, they won’t be so strict on where you smoke. Many e-cigarette users who switched from regular cigarettes say their spouse and loved ones don’t mind they smoke, or “vape,” in the car going down the road or in the house.

Take a look at Modern Vapor’s newest article – Eliminating Nasty Tobacco Odor with Smokeless Electronic Cigarettes – to learn more about how e-cigarettes do not have the nasty odors so many others find repulsive about regular cigarettes.

And if you’re ready to start eliminating those pungent odors from your life without having to give up smoking entirely, check out Modern Vapor’s selection of smokeless electronic cigarette starter kits today.

Life Expectancy of a Rechargeable E-Cigarette Battery

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

How do e-cigarettes get the energy to deliver nicotine to my body and how long do they last?

Smokeless electronic cigarettes contain a lithium-ion battery that powers an atomizer that heats nicotine infused liquid that you inhale. Every so often, you need to re-charge this battery to be able to fully enjoy e-cigarettes.

Lithium-ion batteries are found in many electronic devices including cell phones, laptop computers and other small electronic devices.

How long the battery lasts depends a lot on the conditions you use the e-cigarette, how much you use it and the quality of the battery. The frequency in which you use your smokeless electronic cigarette determines how often you need to re-charge it. As a rule of thumb, it’s good to re-charge the battery while you’re sleeping at night.

It typically takes 1 ½ to 2 hours to fully recharge a lithium-ion battery for your e-cigarette. Most batteries can be charged around 200 to 300 times before they are worn out so on average, you should go through about 2 to 3 batteries per year.

Modern Vapor e-cigarette batteries cost around $16 plus shipping.

We include two battery options – automatic and manual.

Automatic e-cigarette batteries begin running and stay on as soon as you press the button on the cartridge. They don’t last as long as manual batteries since they stay running as long as you have the device turned on. Manual e-cigarette batteries on the other hand only come on when you take a drag on your e-cigarette.

In the end, lithium-ion batteries on smokeless electronic cigarettes represent the most cost effective, technologically advanced form of portable power device. As technology develops, expect longer lasting batteries to become more affordable and available.

In the mean time, check out Modern Vapor’s selection of smokeless electronic cigarettes. Our products contain the best batteries available so you can be sure you will get the most out of your e-cigarette between charges.

What are Smokeless Electronic Cigarettes?

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

What are these interesting contraptions that look like real cigarettes that I’m seeing more and more of?

You’re probably witnessing someone enjoy a revolutionary way of smoking. A smokeless electronic cigarette is a device that heats nicotine infused liquid, known as electronic cigarette juice, which vaporizes and delivers the nicotine to the smoker.

Smokeless electronic cigarettes provide an innovative way to enjoy smoking without the pitfalls of traditional cigarettes. They DO NOT contain many of the harmful substances found in traditional smokes – tar, carbon monoxide, fire, tobacco AND THE SMELL to name a few.

Another benefit of smokeless electronic cigarettes – you can smoke them just about anywhere!

Since they only emit water vapor, smokeless electronic cigarettes do not have the smell regular cigarettes do. No more offensive odors, no more smelly clothing, hair, etc.

There are several parts to a smokeless electronic cigarette but once you put it together, you can easily satisfy your nicotine cravings without the harmful effects of traditional cigarettes.

A battery connected to an atomizer heats the nicotine infused electronic cigarette juice that you inhale. You’re not inhaling smoke, you’re inhaling a nicotine infused vapor……which is why we call it “vaping” rather than smoking.

Nicotine Concentration in Electronic Cigarette Juice

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Traditional smokers know the nomenclature all too well – ultra lights, lights and regular strength cigarettes indicate the level of nicotine in a cigarette.

Smokeless electronic cigarettes work kind of the same way except the level of nicotine doesn’t fluctuate with different brands and strengths but rather the electronic cigarette juice you place in the cartridge you inhale.

So what’s the big difference between a “light” and a “regular?”

Nicotine concentration of course…each smoker is different in this regard. Some are satisfied with just a small amount of nicotine while others require much larger doses. This largely depends on the brand and flavor you’re using before deciding to “vape” rather than “smoke.”

Electronic cigarette kits we sell at Modern Vapor include the regular strength electronic cigarette juice in pre-filled cartridges that you can refill with whatever flavor and strength you like. Regular strength basically means 16 mg (milligrams) of nicotine per cartridge.

Modern Vapor also offers different strengths of electronic cigarette juice to suit your particular needs. Once you receive your electronic cigarette kit, you can try the regular strength to get an idea of what e-juice will fulfill your nicotine cravings.

Common nicotine levels in electronic cigarette juice include: 0 mg – 12 mg = Low, 12 mg – 18 mg = Medium, 18 mg – 24 mg = high.

Of course, if you encounter any e-liquids with 0 mg that means it has no nicotine in it.

When you begin vaping, play around with different strengths and find out what you’re comfortable with. Every “vaper” is different so don’t rely on advice from others as to what strength you should choose.

You and only you can make that choice!
